Daniel Pacheco - Profile
Daniel Pacheco, one of the jewels in the crown of Barcelona's youth team, was snapped in the summer of 2007 by Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.
Spanish pundits described the move as 'robbery', with Daniel Pacheco having been perceived as perhaps the most promising central forward of their under 16 team.
Pacheco turned 16 last year, yet had already been used regularly for Barça's Under 18 side. In deciding to accept Liverpool Football Club's offer to play in England, he has reportedly committed his future for the next three years. Despite Barçalona's attempts to block the signing, the agreement between the English club and the player went ahead, signalling very exciting times for the future of Anfield's youth!
Barcelona Under 16 manager, Garcia Pimienta, said that Daniel is "a big loss for the club because we're talking about a striker with lots of quality and a goalscorer. He's been our top goalscorer, reaching almost 30 goals and he's already played with the Under 18s, so I don't think this is a sporting issue, because he is highly valued at the club". The coach considers that "along with Thiago Alcantara and Gai Assulin he was one of the best prospects that we had, but there is nothing we can do now. It all happened very fast".
Dani Pacheco is from Malaga, though he has spent the last four years at Barcelona. Now, as with Cesc, Pique and Fran Merida before him, he's made his move to the Premiership, and the home of football...
